IPL 2021 auction date: When and where will Indian Premier League 2021 auction be held?
IPL 2021 auction date: Murmurs regarding the 14th season of the biggest T20 tournament have started to do the rounds in the media.
It isn’t customary for Indian Premier League fans to discuss player retention and auction strategies a couple of months after the completion of a season.
However, an almost six-month delay in the 13th season of the Indian Premier League due to the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the norms as fans and franchises have already begun to ponder about their squads for the next season despite IPL 2020 finishing less than two months ago.
It was around a couple of weeks ago that BCCI had ruled out the concept of a 10-team IPL in the imminent 14th season which is likely to begin towards the end of March or start of April.
We all know 2020 won.
With hope, let’s welcome 2021. 🦁💛 #Super2021 #HappyNewYear #WhistlePodu pic.twitter.com/P1ySlSuYuN— Chennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) December 31, 2020
IPL 2021 auction date
As far as the auction for IPL 2021 is concerned, there are reports of the same happening on February 11. As per reports, the same is said to have been decided during the IPL Governing Council which had met virtually earlier this week.
While the auction for IPL 2020 had happened in Kolkata, the venue for IPL 2021 auction is yet to be disclosed. What is known at this point in time is that January 21 is the deadline for teams to submit their list of retained and released players.
“We will have the players’ retention till January 21 and the trading window for the franchises closes on February 4,” IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel told PTI.

It is worth mentioning that IPL 2021 auction won’t be a mega auction, i.e., franchises won’t be retaining only three players and building their teams from scratch. Instead, fans shouldn’t expect most teams to make changes in bulk for the 14th season.
At this point in time, there is no confirmed information as to whether IPL 2021 will be played in India or not. Much like the last season, the same will be depend on the status of coronavirus cases in the country. Even if it is played in India, there could be a possibility where less number of venues are shortlisted to minimize travel.
