“I’m Kobe Bryant, Tony Parker is why I didn’t win more championships”: Lakers legend’s appearance on Spurs Finals MVP’s documentary ‘The Final Shot’ is quite a watch
Spurs’ legend Tony Parker releases his documentary – ‘The Final Shot’ – in which Kobe Bryant and his part steal the show.
Tony Parker recently released his documentary on Netflix, ‘Tony Parker: The Final Shot’. It was a compilation of the greatest moments of his 4x NBA Championship career. There were a lot of moments highlighted in the 6’2″ Point Guard’s career.
However, the one moment that stole everyone’s attention. It was none other than the late Kobe Bryant, who was seen tapping his foot impatiently as he waited for his turn to speak. As soon as his turn came, Kobe introduced himself and called Parker the reason why he doesn’t have more rings.
“I’m Kobe Bryant, and I played against Tony for years. Years and years and years. He’s responsible for me not winning more championships.”
Kobe Bryant recalls his on-court tricks to deal with Tony Parker
Tony Parker and Kobe Bryant faced each other a lot in their times in their illustrious careers. Being in the Western Conference, they faced off each other in the playoffs a lot as well. They have met in 6 playoff series during the times Kobe and Parker played, with the Lakers edging a 4-2 record.
A clip from the documentary can be seen here. Kobe was seen talking about how he dealt with Tony Parker on the court:
“I remember games where Tony had a really really short leash. He makes one mistake and Pop’s [Gregg Popovich] gonna pull him out the game. So I would tell Tony ‘You know what I’m just gonna trap you. Cause if you dribble the ball off your foot, you turn the ball over you’re out the game’. But I think that kind of pressure and environment helped Tony play develop and play in those precious situations.”
