“Draymond Green was headed to Europe”: Andrew Bogut shares how Steve Kerr saved Warriors star’s NBA career alongside Stephen Curry
Andrew Bogut talks about how Draymond Green was headed to Europe if it wasn’t for Steve Kerr’s intervention as the head coach.
Draymond Green is one of the main reasons the Warriors achieved so much success in the past few years. He is the defensive spearhead and is often called the heart and soul of the team.
In his first two years in the league, head coach Mark Jackson started him only 13 times. Draymond is like a Swiss army knife for the Warriors. Like any other tool, there must be a person who knows how to make the best of it.
Draymond was played at the 3 position under Jackson, something that doesn’t really suit him well. He averaged 4.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in under 18 minutes of play per outing. He was about to finish his contract, and it did not look like he would get a renewal in the NBA.
Andrew Bogut believes Draymond Green would be overseas, if not for Steve Kerr
Andrew Bogut was recently on air with 95.7 The Game, where he talked about his former Warriors teammates. From what he saw, Draymond wasn’t going to be in the league for long under Mark Jackson. However, things totally changed as soon as Steve Kerr joined as the Head Coach.
“He struggled his rookie year to find what his role was in the NBA and within the team. Once he got that opportunity from Steve, it kind of all changed. He’s the first to tell you, he was almost on a plane to Europe with the way he was being played earlier in his career.”

Draymond blossomed and turned in a totally different player under Steve Kerr. He unlocked Green’s true potential. Ever since, Green has always started for the Warriors. The Warriors now have a 6-5 record to start their season, and are top 10 in NBA power ratings.
