“You can’t tell me what not to do”: OKC Thunder star George Hill slams the NBA’s COVID-19 protocols, suggests not playing

George Hill of the OKC Thunder says that the NBA can’t tell him what not to do and that if it’s that serious, the NBA should go on a hiatus.

The first wave of COVID-19 positive tests have officially hit the NBA. Players such as Seth Curry have tested positive for COVID and placed themselves in a 14 day quarantine. The Sixers had to infamously roll out merely 7 players in a game against the Denver Nuggets this past week.

Teams including the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, and Chicago Bulls have also gotten their games postponed due to health and safety protocols.

This was what Adam Silver and the NBA signed up for when they decided to commence forth with the 2020-21 NBA season without the use of a Bubble.

George Hill doesn’t feel like the NBA should be telling players what to do.

With COVID-19 still rampant in the US, the health and safety protocols the NBA put in place to protect their employees and players can be quite harsh. Whether this means players cannot meet certain people or go to certain places, players seem to be taking these rules quite lightly.

George Hill of the Thunder had this to say about the NBA’s COVID protocols: “I’m a grown man, so I’m going to do what I want. If I want to go see my family then I will go see my family. They can’t tell me what to do. If it’s that serious then we shouldn’t be playing.”

Though there might be some truth to Hill’s statements, this is something every NBA player has to deal with. Another hiatus would perhaps not be feasible for the NBA.

There have been rumors stating that the NBA may take a 10-14 day break from play to make sure every player is healthy before starting the season back up again. Whether this happens or not still remains to be seen.
