“It’s been a mammoth task”- Aston Martin boss on efforts made to rebrand the team
“It’s been a mammoth task”- Aston Martin boss on the recent efforts to rebrand Racing Point, as they set to compete in 2021.
Aston Martin has rebranded itself from Racing Point; the absolute transformation was planned when the merge was first announced in January 2020.
Since then, the team has made a massive transformation and rebranded itself as Aston Martin, changed the livery and building of a new factory based at Silverstone to allow the team to move out of their existing facility which was built in the 1980s (though this was stopped due to the financial stress caused by the ongoing pandemic.)
But still, several other things kept going on, and the team will run down at Bahrain with Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll on the grid. Talking about the journey, team principal Otmar Szafnauer mentions the struggle.
“It’s been a mammoth task. It’s easy to forget we’ve been putting the groundwork in place for a brand new era alongside a very challenging global setting,” said Otmar Szafnauer to the Motorsport.com.
“All the while balancing those tasks with our most successful F1 season to date – including a race win and multiple podium finishes en route to fourth place in the constructors’ championship.
“Everyone involved should be extremely proud of that achievement, and I think it demonstrates that while this is a new team name and identity, we have retained the strong backbone that has guided us through some tough times to where we are today.”
Aiming for the stars
While Aston Martin is ready to compete in 2021, Szafnauer is now targeting to be the next top team of the grid after securing impressive 4th position in 2020.
“While the challenge was once establishing ourselves as the most efficient team on the grid, now there’s an exciting opportunity to establish ourselves as a top team while still maintaining that efficiency to add an exciting chapter to the Aston Martin legacy.”
