“Lewis wants more than Mercedes is willing to pay”- Eddie Jordan provides inside intel, claiming reigning F1 champion might get axed.
Lewis Hamilton despite giving all the glory to Mercedes, is now in uncertainty about his future with the reigning world champions, as his contract extension talks are reportedly in a stalemate.
Providing an inside intel, Former Formula 1 team Jordan’s team principal Eddie Jordan has said that Mercedes might axe the 36-year-old race driver, with no solution being found between the two parties.
“I have excellent sources that I can rely on one hundred percent, and I have common sense,” he told F1 Insider. “I’m still extremely well networked in the scene, and I talk to Bernie Ecclestone on the phone regularly.”
Ultimatum to Toto Wolff has been served.
Amidst all the fiasco, it has been revealed by the same source that Mercedes F1 team’s parent company Daimler has served an ultimatum to Toto Wolff to serve an ultimatum to Hamilton stating either “pick it or leave it.”
“Apparently the parties disagree on the terms,” Jordan explained. “I just heard that Lewis wants more than Mercedes is willing to pay. It’s also about sharing the team’s income and having an influential role in the Mercedes group.
“If I were the boss of Daimler, I would show him the door: Either you drive on our terms, or you go,” he concluded. As per the sources, Mercedes are not concerned about Hamilton resuming his services with the team.
They have found a suitable alternative in George Russell, who apparently showed his potential with a Mercedes car in the Sakhir GP. On the other hand, snatching Max Verstappen from the hands of Red Bull is also speculated.
Meanwhile, the close aides to Hamilton have clarified that the Briton still wants to race in F1, now it remains to be seen where this saga ends.
