“I just don’t think this is a good rulebook”- Adrian Newey is not thrilled by the new regulations, affecting the competition from 2022 onwards.
Ahead of 2022 season, Formula 1 is bringing in new regulations, which intends to increase the competition between the teams and allow more overtaking.
One of the rules which are massively going to affect the competition is the budget cap. The limit on it would propel the team to install simpler aerodynamics.
Adrian Newey, who is credited for Red Bull’s dominance in the early phase of this decade, has claimed that he is not impressed by FIA’s new rules.
“If you come up with new regulation, then make sure it’s good. But these rules aren’t,” he said to Formule1.nl. “I just don’t think this is a good rulebook.”
Newey feels that the rules don’t excite him and is still looking for a new challenge. “I have to admit that I still have to find something to make these rules exciting for myself.”
Red Bull set to grab engine freeze
While the regulations are normal to be dealt with for the teams ahead of 2021, FIA may impose another regulation, but from 2022 onwards, the engine freeze.
Initially demanded by Red Bull after Honda decided to leave the competition at the end of this year. With time other teams also agreed to support Red Bull in their agenda.
It has been realized that the engine freeze would eventually benefit all the teams amidst the budget caps. Therefore, now it seems that the request would be granted to Red Bull.
Making them a self-sustainable team, as they are planning to utilize the remnants of Honda from 2022 to ignite their cars on the track. But, eventually, once the new regulations step in 2025 or 2026, Red Bull will have to find another partner.
