“We are talking about the 20 best drivers in the world” – Pirelli F1 boss Mario Isola names three best drivers in tyre management
“We are talking about the 20 best drivers in the world” – Pirelli F1 boss Mario Isola has revealed the three best drivers in the current grid when it comes to tyre management.
Pirelli F1 boss Mario Isola has revealed who he feels are the three best drivers when it comes to tyre management. He has chosen three drivers from three teams, highlighting the importance of drivers vis-a-vis the car. Isola spoke highly of one of them, in a conversation with RacingNews365.com.
“Every driver has his own driving style, but we are talking about the 20 best drivers in the world. It is clear that they have great skills, but a car is an important tool in making the tyres last longer.
“A driver can make the difference if he knows exactly how far he can push the tyre. Max is a great driver in that respect, and Lewis for sure, but Charles is also very good at tyre management.”

Pirelli F1 boss Mario Isola is a fan of Max Verstappen
Isola clearly prefers Verstappen over the other two, speaking very highly of the Dutchman. He pointed out two races where Max stood out – Brazil 2016 and Silverstone 2020.
“I was impressed by Max in Brazil a few years ago [in 2016]. His performance on a wet track was great. The conditions were the same for everyone, but he drove unbelievably well. Maybe the Red Bull car was suited to wet weather, but what he did was incredible regardless.”
“We opted for a softer tyre at Silverstone this year and he was good. Who knows, maybe the Mercedes car is a bit tougher on their tyres, so I can’t claim that the Mercedes drivers were any less good than the rest that day.”
