Charles Barkley explains why Tom Brady is a bigger GOAT than Michael Jordan: “Every Super Bowl is a Game 7”
Charles Barkley made a very different kind of argument on ESPN Radio Chicago as to why Tom Brady is a bigger GOAT than Michael Jordan.
There are quite a few distinctions between winning an NFL title and and an NBA title. The NBA regular season is longer and the playoffs are played in series rather than single-game eliminations. This ensures that the teams with better consistency and talent are likelier to win.
In the NFL, half the team never faces the other half through the course of a regular season campaign. Only the NFC and the AFC champions meet each other in the Super Bowl. The stakes of each game are, thus, much higher. Winning a championship, therefore, is arguably more difficult for a less talented team.
Charles Barkley evidently didn’t think of it before this morning. But he seems to have come across this line of reasoning recently, so he decided to take to his weekend radio show appearance to talk about it.
Charles Barkley talks about Tom Brady vs Michael Jordan
This is what Barkley said on the radio this morning:
“It’s hard for me to put anybody above Michael, but Michael was always gonna be the best player four out of seven games. But, the difference is every time Tom Brady played a football game, it was a Game 7.”
“I never had thought about it like that. I mean, you think about that. Every football game in the playoffs is a Game 7.”
With respect to greats Jordan & Brady, based on Barkley’s logic Phelps, Bolt, Serena, Federer are the GOATs. Every game/race of every championship or Olympics is a “Game 7.” With Olympics no try again next year! Bolt & Phelps get no halftime adjustments! https://t.co/dmLi1ezeft

There is still the small matter of how a quarterback in football doesn’t play both sides of the game. Or the fact that there are many more players on the field at any time on a football field, reducing each player’s role by a significant amount.
