“Some Andy Reid-type sh*t where I’m making crazy plays.”: Los Angeles Lakers Superstar LeBron James Reveals Desire to Become Football Coach

Most people know LeBron James as, first and foremost, a basketball player. However, recently he expressed his dream of stepping back onto the gridiron.

Speaking to the Athletic, the Ohio native gave fans an insight to what his future may look like. James revealed that he would like to own an NBA franchise after his retirement.

Without a doubt, he is more than qualified to own a “ball club” as he would say, but not just because of his illustrious playing career. He also has experience owning a sports team, considering that in 2011 he acquired a 2% stake in the English soccer/football team Liverpool F.C.

Following Liverpool’s recent success, his $6.5 million investment grew by an expected 6 times. While he’ll be hoping for similar luck if and when he buys an NBA team, James claimed he also has a relatively simpler aspiration for his future.

“Before I had aspirations of owning an NBA team I always talked about how cool it would be to be a high school football coach,” James said.

“Be it a head coach or an offensive coordinator. Some Andy Reid-type sh*t where I’m making crazy plays. I just love the sport. I watch it all the time. It’s just in me. It’s how I grew up.”

Could LeBron James Have Played in the NFL?

Without fail, anytime someone mentions LeBron and football in the same sentence, this is the question that normally comes up. The simply answer to the question: yes, probably.

Before LeBron Raymone James Sr. became arguably the greatest player to ever touch a basketball, there was actually point when he considered going to the NFL.

In his first 2 years at St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron, Ohio, LeBron was just as dominant on the gridiron as he was on the court. He was All-State as a sophomore and still features on his high school’s leaderboard for some major stats to this day.

There’s absolutely no shortage of anecdotes from former teammates and coaches that testify to James’ ability as a football player. Moreover, his scholarship offers backed it all up as he received offers from a number of D-1 colleges including Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Obviously, this will forever be an open-ended debate, but however you feel, you can’t deny the Lakers’ star’s love for the game. On Sundays, he frequently shows off his multi-screen set up to watch every NFL game simultaneously on his Instagram.

Whether or not he can truly channel his inner Andy Reid in the future, there’s very few schools in America that would say no to having LeBron James coach their football team.
