“Michael gave me and my sister our first go-kart”- Red Bull Junior Jack Doohan reveals a close relationship with his family with Michael Schumacher.
Jack Doohan, a prospect of the Red Bull programme, would be debuting in Formula 3. The son of motorbike champion Mick Doohan has revealed in an interview with ‘This Racing Class‘ that his family had a close tie with Michael Schumacher and his family.
He also mentioned that Schumacher gifted him his first go-kart, a tiny step into his motorsport career, and the seven-time world champion has often stayed with them.
“I was fortunate enough that he was a family friend from a young age. Michael occasionally visited us in Australia and stayed with us because he and my dad were friends. They lived next door to each other in Monaco at one point,” Doohan said.
At the tender age of seven, Schumacher gave Doohan his first go-kart. “Michael gave me and my sister our first go-kart when we were three,” he said.
Michael Schumacher is someone you idolize
Doohan witnessing Schumacher on several occasions, have thrown up idolizing the former Ferrari driver, and he confesses that he looks up to him highly.
“Given everything he has accomplished and his whole mentality, he is someone who I look up to massively. My father as well because of how much he achieved, knowing that he came from nothing.”
“He has allowed me to be able to do this, and I have been very fortunate to have been brought into this life. My dad didn’t have that luxury, so his dedication and work ethic was above and beyond, and I hugely look up to that,” says the 18-year-old driver.
Meanwhile, Schumacher’s son Mick Schumacher has shown his calibre in F2 and now would be making his debut with Haas this year.
