“Kobe Bryant should be the NBA logo”: Vanessa Bryant agrees with Kyrie Irving after the Nets star sounds off on his idea of replacing Jerry West
Kyrie Irving is pushing an idea regarding Kobe Bryant with the endorsement of his widowed wife Vanessa – getting Kobe on the NBA logo.
Yesterday, Kyrie Irving proposed that his idol and Lakers GOAT Kobe Bryant should now be honored by being placed on the logo. The Black Mamba is neither the first nor the last player who’s been ponied up for that role.
Many people believe that this move would be disrespectful to Jerry West. West is now an octogenarian who last played in the NBA nearly 47 years ago. His textbook dribbling and smooth style of play got him the nicknames of Mr. Smoove and ‘The Logo’.

Michael Jordan was one of the people whom the NBA considered putting on their logo. But his most iconic pose had already been taken up by Nike with the ‘Jumpman’ symbol. Smooth as MJ was, it was tough to find him in another suitable pose for the logo.

Kyrie believes that Kobe is a cult icon worth putting up on the NBA logo, and Vanessa is in full agreement. She posted Kyrie’s picture on her Instagram stories to show that she’s in total agreement with this idea.

While the idea itself is sweet, one would be hard-pressed to find a typical Kobe pose as such. Bryant’s greatest strength as a player was his ability to take and make practically any shot imaginable in a game situation.
He had great handles, but there are players like Allen Iverson and Tim Hardaway Jr who perfected this craft better. The idea of the Black Mamba on the NBA logo is an enticing one, undoubtedly. But it’s probably not going to materialize the way Kyrie and Vanessa want.
