The basketball icon’s popularity has taken a huge hit in Hong Kong ever since he appeared to dismiss the protesters’ ongoing fight for basic civil rights. Fans in Hong Kong burned his jerseys when he stated that freedom of speech can lead to a lot of negatives.

LeBron has now come under scrutiny for his new business venture wherein he alongside Maverick Carter raised $100 million for his new company. The Lakers’ superstar has been called a hypocrite for only caring about money amidst rumors that a Chinese firm has invested in his new venture.

Lebron James controversy on Human rights

LeBron James walked into controversy when he dimissed the fight against basic human rights.His interview also pushed the NBA into trouble. James told some reporters that Daryl Morey “wasn’t educated on the situation at hand” and that “so many people could have been harmed not only financially, but physically, emotionally, spiritually.”

Activist Joshua Wong called James a hypocrite for only speaking on the matters concerning his own country. She along with several twitter users has accused the global superstar for only caring about money. Wong said that the Lakers’ star does not care about human rights.

Several Chinese firms and companies have backed out of broadcast and sponsorship deals this season. The NBA has had several losses this season and the comments made by their biggest superstar has had a massive impact on it.
