“LeBron James is doing things no one else has at this age”: Jamal Crawford stoutly defends the Lakers star on Twitter despite dipping advanced statistics
A 4-game slide before an irresistible performance against the Blazers set people’s tongues wagging on LeBron James, but Jamal Crawford doesn’t care.
The Lakers have snapped their losing streak with a pretty good defensive display against Damian Lillard and co. Both teams are shorthanded, but the Blazers were worse off, missing 2 of their top 3 players.
Dame had 14 points in the first quarter of the game. But he couldn’t go on and lead the Blazers ahead of the Lakers for the rest of the game. Robert Covington was especially terrible on offense, bricking all of his 3-point looks.
LeBron, meanwhile, rebounded from some sub-par outings of late with another vintage performance. He was particularly effective on the defensive end, allaying fears of advanced age hampering him.
Jamal Crawford praises LeBron James for MVP-caliber play at the age of 36
Jamal Crawford made a quote tweet on StatMuse’s post about James’ declining advanced stats this season. What he said is something that sorely needs to be added to this particular conversation:
“Eye test shows he’s doing things that no one has this late in their career…”

And Crawford is absolutely right. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won a Finals MVP at 38, but that was much more of a team achievement. Karl Malone is the oldest MVP at the age of 36, but he wasn’t scoring with ease like LeBron is doing today.
James is still in the mix for the MVP award this year, although he may no longer be at the top of the MVP leaderboard by the All-Star break. The eye test, as Crawford can confirm, clearly shows that LeBron is still the best player in the world.
As AD said, James is far more concerned about winning championships than mundane regular season games.
