Vijay Hazare Trophy knockout teams: Nine teams have qualified for the forthcoming knockout round of Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Having commenced on February 20, the ongoing season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy witnessed 38 teams playing in six groups in a 10-day long league stage of India’s premier domestic One-Day competition.

While the league stage was conducted across six different cities namely Surat, Indore, Bangalore, Jaipur, Kolkata and Chennai, all the knockout matches will be played in New Delhi.

All the nine teams which have qualified for the knockout round will travel to the national capital and follow all COVID-19 protocols including tests upon reaching their respective venues. Beginning from March 7, the knockout round will last for eight days with the final match scheduled to be played on March 14.

Vijay Hazare Trophy knockout teams

The teams who have qualified for the knockouts of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 are Gujarat, Mumbai, Karnataka, Saurashtra, Andhra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Uttarakhand and Delhi.

In the general run of things, only eights teams get qualified for the quarter-finals of any sporting tournament. A ninth qualified team in this case means that Uttarakhand and Delhi will begin the knockout stage with a preliminary quarter-final on March 7. The winner of the match will join the rest of the seven teams for the quarter-finals.

Other than Gujarat (Elite A) and Mumbai (Elite D), Uttarakhand (Plate Group) and Assam (Plate Group) were the only other teams who finished the five-match league stage undefeated. It was Uttarakhand’s (3.273) better net run rate than Assam (1.909) which made them top the Plate Group.

Uttarakhand will play Delhi and not any other team in the preliminary quarter-final because of Delhi’s lower net run rate among teams with 16 points. While Gujarat (20), Andhra (12), Karnataka (16), Mumbai (20) and Saurashtra (16) qualified as the five table-toppers of Elite groups, Uttar Pradesh (16 points in Elite C), Kerala (16 points in Elite C) and Delhi (16 points in Elite D) qualified from the combined Elite table.

Despite Baroda (Elite A) also having 16 points to their name, they couldn’t pin down Delhi because of their low net run rate of 0.399 as compared to Delhi’s 0.507.
