Kieron Pollard six sixes: The West Indian captain has joined the likes of Herschelle Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh in an elite list.

During the first T20I of the ongoing Sri Lanka’s tour of West Indies in Antigua, West Indies captain Kieron Pollard assaulted Sri Lanka spinner Akila Dananjaya by hitting six sixes in an over to enter an elite list comprising of former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs and former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.

Chasing a below par 132-run target, Pollard walked in to bat at No. 5 in the fourth over just after Dananjaya had registered his maiden T20I hat-trick. From becoming only the third Sri Lanka bowler to take a T20I hat-trick to becoming only the third bowler to get hit for six sixes in an over, Dananjaya had a night of mixed emotions.

With Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanidu Hasaranga finding West Indies opening batsman Lendl Simmons (26) plumb in front of the wickets, Pollard seemed to take the mantle in his own hands to the extent that he scored 36 runs in an over to bring down the required run rate to 2.43.

In what was the last over of the powerplay, Pollard used brute force against the 27-year old player to continuously hit him in his strong zone, i.e., from straight over the bowler’s head to deep mid-wicket.

Having scored 38 (11), Pollard did more than enough for their remaining batsmen to seal the chase as all-rounder Jason Holder (29*) remained unbeaten till the end.
