Jofra Archer Injury Update: How many IPL 2021 matches will Archer miss for Rajasthan Royals?

Jofra Archer Injury Update: The English fast bowler had underwent a minor procedure to his right hand on Monday.

England fast bowler Jofra Archer has had a successful surgery to his right hand which witnessed a fragment of glass getting removed from the middle finger of his right hand.

“England pace bowler Jofra Archer underwent successful surgery to his right hand on Monday. A fragment of glass was removed during the operation to his middle finger on his right hand,” ECB said in a statement published on their website regarding Archer’s injury.

Archer, 25, had suffered a cut to his hand while cleaning at his Hove apartment in January. Having said that, the same hadn’t affected his participation for the tour of India.

Archer, who is now under a two-week rehabilitation program, will only resume training after the consultant reviews his progress.

According to the England Cricket Board, any further update on Archer’s injury can only be provided after he has resumed bowling. Archer, who was earlier reported to be set to miss some matches of Indian Premier League 2021, is likely to miss the first four matches of the forthcoming 14th season of the tournament according to ESPNcricinfo.

If the same happens, Archer’s first IPL 2021 match will be against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 24 in Mumbai. In such a situation, expect Archer to arrive in India by the second week of April for he will have to undergo a seven-day quarantine period before joining his teammates at Rajasthan Royals.

In the first four matches, Royals will have to pick one out of Mustafizur Rahman or Andrew Tye as a potential replacement for Archer. The Sanju Samson-led team, who will play its season opener against Punjab Kings on April 12, will also have an option of picking an overseas batsman in the Playing XI and playing an Indian pacer for Archer.

After playing their first five matches in Mumbai, Royals will travel to Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru to play four, three and two league matches respectively.
