“I ain’t gonna be one of these jackasses get on TV and act like he knows about football.”: NBA Legend Charles Barkley says that he turned down a Monday Night Football job.

Charles Barkley is arguably one of the most recognizable sports analysts in all of sports and is definitely one of the funniest. Thus, it isn’t a surprise that all sports analysts and broadcasters would salivate at the possibility of having Barkley join their program. But Charles was having none of it.

Chuck, as he has become known to just about anyone with a television set, has crafted an entire persona out of not caring to care, and American sports fans have lapped it up for 21 consecutive years. Chuck has been pivotal in the success that NBA on TNT has received. So when ESPN was looking for a change at Monday Night Football, they were all in on Barkley.

Charles Barkley does not want to switch to covering the NFL.

Charles Barkley recently made an appearance on the first episode of “The Jim Brockmire Podcast”. And during the conversation, Chuck said, “I like football, but I ain’t gonna be one of these jackasses get on TV and act like he know about football.” He doesn’t reveal when the offer was made to him, but he revealed that he wasn’t interested at all.

ESPN has been looking to change the booth for Monday Night Football, and they have been at it for years in search for elevated quality. ESPN’s Monday Night Football presentation between the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears generated an audience of 11,450,000 viewers, television’s most-watched program on Monday, Nov. 16 2020.

ESPN has been looking for a star icon to lead the MNF gig for some time now. Peyton Manning remains a constant possibility, as does Phillip Rivers, and perhaps even Sean McVay, if he burns out on coaching before he turns 40.

It’s unfortunate that we will not get to see Charles Barkley’s hilarious persona every Monday Night. However, it could turn out well for Chuck. He is doing great for NBA on TNT and thus there wouldn’t be any need for him to risk jumping ship.
