“Michael Jordan and LeBron James were unbeaten as teammates”: When the Lakers star played alongside MJ as a rookie in his basketball camp
Back in 2003, Lakers superstar LeBron James teamed up with Bulls legend Michael Jordan at MJ’s camp and didn’t lose a single game.
It is obvious that many kids who watched Mike surely would’ve been inspired and wanted to be like him. One of the current NBA legend who recognised MJ as his idol, Lakers superstar LeBron James.
Today, the two legends are considered to be the greatest players of all time and are the reason for many “GOAT debates” amongst fans and analysts.
Unfortunately, we never saw the two of them play against each other in the league. Bron entered the league in 2003, a season after Jordan’s last. However, last year, James himself revealed how in 2003, he was teammates with his idol at a Jordan camp in Santa Barbara. In an “Uninterrupted” interview, James revealed:
“We were on the same team then. I was a rookie in the league and I went to Santa Barbara to MJ’s camp and we used to play around 9 p.m.”
“The camp would end, he would let the kids watch the first game around 8:30, and then he’d have all of the kids leave and then we would stay along with the college kids that he would invite to the camp. We would get a good a*s run in for about an hour, hour-15. I was on the team with M.J. and we didn’t lose a game.”
Michael Jordan and LeBron James are two of the greatest players of all time
Luckily for their opponents, MJ was exiting the league while Bron was just starting his journey. Had the two icons been in their primes, it would have been a nightmare for even the best of the best players. However, King James revealed the two in their primes, on the same team would have been on a “whole other level”. James revealed:
“I saw the things [Scottie Pippen] was able to do with Mike. “Pip was one of my favourite players, [but] it would’ve been a whole other level with me being a point forward, with me being that point forward alongside him during those Chicago runs. Me personally, the way I play the game, team first, I feel like my best assets work perfectly with Mike.”
“Mike is an assassin. When it comes to playing the game of basketball, scoring the way he scored the ball, [then] my ability to pass, my ability to read the game plays and plays and plays in advance.”
Today, their impressively stacked resumes prove to everyone why they are the GOATs. Fans all over the world can only hope that Jordan would’ve retired only one year later. Although, we can only imagine what a dominant force and the number of games a Jordan-James duo would’ve won together.
