Patrick Mahomes ecstatic after blockbuster OT Orlando Brown Jr. trade from the Ravens to the Chiefs.

Patrick Mahomes was stellar as usual last season. But the Chiefs offensive line was routed by the Bucs pass rush in Super Bowl LV as they failed to repeat as Super Bowl Champs. But with the addition of upcoming star tackle Orlando Brown Jr., Kansas City could well be on their way to win their 2nd championship in 3 seasons. And Patrick Mahomes was delighted.

Brown was one of a plethora of signings made by the Kansas City Chiefs to sure up their offensive line. Earlier this year, the Chiefs also added former Patriots guard Joe Thuney, three-time Pro Bowl tackle Kyle Long and veteran centre Austin Blythe to their once-thin O-line depth chart. The team also retained star tackle Laurent Duvernay-Tardiff from last year’s squad.

Orlando Brown Jr. was involved including a number of draft picks going either way. The Cheifs received LT Orlando Brown Jr., 2021 second round pick (No. 58 overall), 2022 sixth round pick. Baltimore Ravens will receive a 2021 first round pick (No. 31 overall),  2021 third-round pick (No. 94), 2021 fourth-round pick (No. 136), 2022 fifth-round pick

Patrick Mahomes was all smiles after the Orlando Brown Jr. trade.

What will be interesting to see is how Brown manages after moving to the left side of the line.  Of course, as a right tackle, we know Brown to be a Pro Bowl talent. That said, he’ll be making the switch over the left side with the Chiefs, which does add somewhat of an unknown.

When Brown was on the blindside for the Ravens in 2020, however, he was still a dominant Pro Bowl-caliber player. According to PFF, he allowed zero sacks or hits allowed in 389 pass-blocking snaps with the Ravens last year.

Patrick Mahomes signed the biggest contract in NFL history, a contract worth $500M. While Mahomes deserves each and every penny, even his historically great talent was not enough to overcome the Super Bowl LV nightmare. Through the Chiefs’ 31-9 Super Bowl loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mahomes took three sacks, eight quarterback hits and was pressured a Super Bowl-record 29 times

The preseason odds had the Kansas City Chiefs as the favourites for Super Bowl LVI. And the addition of Brown will only cement their place there. Kansas City’s historically great offence will only get better next season. The Orlando Brown trade could cement their dynasty for years to come.
