“Dear New York fans, be happy you’re in the playoffs, but you’re not winning a ring”: Shannon Sharpe introduces Knicks fans to a few more harsh realities
Shannon Sharpe blasts the New York Knicks claiming they wouldn’t be able to beat the Nets, Philly or Bucks in the postseason.
The New York Knicks organisation is one of the biggest and richest franchises in the whole league. The team has been home to many NBA all-time legends, has seen two successful championships in their history.
However, in the last couple of years, the Knicks have tarnished their reputation of being a “successful” team. NYK has barely been a .500 team not even making the playoffs in the last 7 years.
Back in the 2018 season, New York Knicks fans insisted that the teams should purposely tank games, in order to receive the number 1 pick of the 2019 Draft, hoping to select phenom talent, Zion Williamson.
The fans also believed that superstars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant would join forces to play at the Big Apple. Much to their surprise, the team got the third pick in the 2019 Draft, selecting Duke’s RJ Barrett while Irving and Durant went on to play for the Nets.
This season, behind Randle and the experience of veteran Derrick Rose and Taj Gibson, the team has surprised many and are playing incredibly well. With their Monday night win against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Knicks have guaranteed themselves to play in this year’s postseason for the first time since the 2012-2013 season.

“Be happy New York, but y’all won’t be able to beat the Bucks, Philly or Nets”: Shannon Sharpe
The Knicks have shockingly been one of the strongest and dominant teams this year. Behind Julius Randle, who has been having the best season of his career, the team is looking to be unstoppable. Currently, with a 37-28 record, the Knicks sit on the fourth seed of the Eastern Conference. They are easily the most in-form team, winning an incredible 9 out of their last 10 games.
As the Knicks camp is currently joyous celebrating their postseason entry, analyst Shannon Sharpe blasts the New York Knicks saying the team wouldn’t be able to win a ring. In an interview, Sharpe claimed how the Knicks wouldn’t be able to beat powerhouses- Milwaukee, Philadelphia and Brooklyn. He added:
“You (New York) do win the first-round series if you get Atlanta, which is the five seed currently. Yes, you could beat them. But that’s where the bus stops.”
“You’re not beating Milwaukee, you’re not beating Philly and you’re not beating the Brooklyn Nets… just be happy you’re in the playoffs. You already talking like ‘oh we gonna win a ring’. You’re not winning anything okay?”

Even though the Knicks wouldn’t be able to take down the string powerhouses in a 7-game series, they have everything to be proud of. Despite being written off by so many fans and analysts, the Knicks had shocked many with their performance.
Also, we have witnessed several unexpected things happen in the playoffs. New York too, would hope for such a Cinderella run in the playoffs this season. Nevertheless, what the Knicks franchise has achieved this season is definitely commendable.
