Clippers superstar Kawhi Leonard opens up about his new music project “Culture Jam”, featuring rappers NBA YoungBoy and Rod Wave.

Music has been a part of the NBA culture for a long time. Very often rappers, singers and performers are spotted at various NBA matches supporting their favorite teams.

In the past we have seen Canadian rapper Drake at Toronto Raptors games, American rapper and producer Jay-Z at LeBron James’ matches and rapper Travis Scott at Houston matches.

It is pretty evident that the rap culture has evolved alongside the NBA. Many stars including Damian Lillard, Lonzo Ball, Shaquille O’Neal and even Kobe Bryant, have tried their rapping skills.

Recently, Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard hopped on Instagram Live for the very first time revealing his new music project. In a live session with high school basketball star Mikey Williams, Kawhi shared a snippet of the track “Everything Different” of his “Culture Jam”. The project even features two globally recognised rappers – NBA YoungBoy and Rod Wave.

“It has been something on my mind that I always wanted to do”: Kawhi Leonard on his music project

Who knew that Kawhi Leonard of all players would be making music expressing himself? However, in the postgame interview after beating the Raptors 105-100, Leonard spoke about his new project. He also stated how a portion of each stream would be going to his idol, Kobe Bryant’s “Mamba and Mambacita Foundation”. Kawhi revealed:

“It just merges basketball and music together. It’s always been something on my mind that I wanted to do, so it’s just something that can uplift our community. A portion of each stream is gonna go to the Mamba & Mambacita Foundation… I’ve been working on the project for the past 6-7 months.”

The two-time Finals MVP had described himself as a “fun guy” back in his introductory press conference with the Raptors in 2018. The Clippers star continues to prove that to everyone with his new venture. Fans can stream his music video on all streaming platforms this upcoming Friday, May 7th.

Kawhi hasn’t let his new venture distract his business on the court. The 2-time NBA champ has had yet another tremendous year averaging 25.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. With the Clippers entering the playoffs as the strong contenders, Kawhi will lead his team eyeing LAC’s first-ever championship.
