“I’ll never take football for granted again”: Christian McCaffrey says he’s happy to be back on the field

Christian McCaffrey tore up the league in 2019 as he became only the third running back in NFL history to finish a season with 1,000+ yards both rushing and receiving. But McCaffrey missed 13 games due to injury in 2020. So now that he is fit again, McCaffrey is excited to hit the field again.

Christian McCaffrey was named to the All-Pro team in only his 3rd season in 2019. The 2017 first-round pick was the best player on a team that ended the season with an awful 5-11 record in 2019. McCaffrey appeared in only three games in 2020 but made the most of his time on the field. He had 76 touches for 374 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns.

Christian McCaffrey opened up about his return and his teammates

Upon the start of organised team activities this week, the most electrifying running back in the NFL,  had his helmet on and his feet back on the Panthers practice field.

“It feels really good,” McCaffrey said, via the team website’s Darin Gantt. “Just putting the helmet on again and being with my teammates, doing what I love to do, it’s something I’ll never take for granted again. I’m super happy to be back.

“It’s just fun. It’s fun to be back on the field playing football. I’m thankful that we can be back here and get together in a semi-normal capacity and play the game we love. It happens. Injuries happen. It’s part of the game,” he said. “I’m really focused on this year and extremely excited about what this team can do this year.”

This year will see a new quarterback lead the Panthers in Sam Darnold. Darnold will be McCaffrey’s third starting QB in as many years. And McCaffrey seems excited to work with him.

“I’ve gotten to know him really well in the last few months,” McCaffrey said. “Just getting together throwing with him and hanging out off the field. He’s an incredible talent and incredible teammate already, so I’m super excited for him. I think he’ll fit in great. Already fits in great.”

Christian McCaffrey and the Panthers will hope to have a winning season in 2021. The team has a plethora of weapons on either side of the ball, and if Sam Darnold can have a decent season, we could see the Panther’s really proving a threat to teams next season.
