Aaron Rodgers Will Make Chris Broussard’s Top 5 QB List, If He Fulfills One Specific Condition This Season
Aaron Rodgers, who recently moved to the New York Jets from Green Bay, has a chance of making his way to Chris Broussard’s Top 5 QB List, and the condition for that is quite simple- win the Super Bowl in the upcoming season. The 39-year-old quarterback last won the Super Bowl with the Packers way back in 2011.
Chris, on a recent segment on First Take, revealed his list of top quarterbacks and while he had no issues naming his top 4, he admitted that he will give the 5th spot to Aaron Rodgers, only if he ends the 2023/24 season with a Lombardi in his hands.
Aaron Rodgers Needs To Win Another Super Bowl To Cement His Place Among the NFL’s Greatest
On First Things First, Chris Broussard began discussing Aaron Rodgers’ inclusion in his all-time Top-5 quarterback list by noting the magnified spotlight that comes with playing in New York. To illustrate his point, he brought up the case of retired quarterback Eli Manning, who, despite having only four Pro Bowl nominations during his tenure with the New York Giants, is likely to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
In this regard, Broussard felt that if Aaron Rodgers does manage to lead the Jets to their first Super Bowl win in over 50 years, it would be an incredible achievement in itself. He even went on to claim that winning a Super Bowl this season would almost make it feel like he’s added two more titles to his resume.
“Everything is magnified for good or bad in New York. So if Rodgers leads a Jets team, not the Giants even, the Jets who haven’t won since 1969, to a Super Bowl it would almost be like winning two. It wouldn’t obviously, but it would almost give him that type of cachet… So I think if he won this Super Bowl for the Jets, he moves into the Top-5 as far as I’m concerned,” Chris Broussard said on First Things First.
According to Broussard, a Super Bowl victory is the only thing that would earn Rodgers a place in his top-5 quarterback list behind the likes of Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Patrick Mahomes, and Peyton Manning who occupy the top-4 positions respectively.
Nick Wright Isn’t Convinced By Aaron Rodgers’ Credentials
Continuing the discussion on Rodgers’ credentials, Chris Broussard’s co-host Nick Wright pointed out that the former Green Bay Packers QB is still amongst the top-3 quarterbacks in the regular season statistically. Wright revealed that the problem with Rodgers is his playoff record, which hasn’t been great since 2011.
Aaron Rodgers boasts of a 7-9 record in playoff games since 2011 and has failed to make a huge impact in the postseason. Wright argued that Rodgers’ only memorable moment in recent years came in 2017. Rodgers led the Packers to a 34-31 victory over Dak Prescott‘s Cowboys in that game with an exceptional throw along the sideline.
All in all, Wright wasn’t convinced by Broussard’s assessment of Rodgers getting into the conversation of being one of the all-time greatest quarterbacks in the NFL.
