“Derrick Rose received fans’ vote for 2021 NBA MVP”: Nikola Jokic misses unanimous MVP as Knicks star is voted no. 1 in this year’s race
Derrick Rose received the same amount of first-place votes as Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo in the run to the 2021 NBA MVP
The current point guard for the New York Knicks. D-rose had a successful 2020-21 NBA season, which had the Knicks make their first playoff appearance since 2013. The former rookie of the year has clearly adjusted, with his new role of a bench player in the latter part of his career.
Rose played 50-games with the Knicks this season, averaging 14.7 PPG, 2.6 RPG, and 4.2 APG on 47.0% shooting from the field. This was followed by some great performances in the post-season.
In the only game that the Knicks won in the first round of the 2021 Playoffs. D-rose had 26-points and shot an incredible 66.7% from the 3-point line. This paved his way in the starting line-up of the Knicks during the Playoffs.
Derrick Rose is the youngest MVP in the history of the NBA
Derrick Rose won crowned the MVP during the 2010-11 NBA season at the age of 22. Rose’s MVP season with the Chicago Bulls will always be one of the major highlights of his career. The same season saw him reach his first NBA conference finals against the Big 3 of the Miami Heat.
However, in the coming years, D-rose would suffer a plethora of injuries robbing him of his prime. The former MVP was never the same as he would suffer catastrophic injuries almost every season, the worst being his ACL tear.
Though this never deterred D-rose from his love for the game as he would continue to bounce back from injuries inculcating a fighting spirit for generations to follow.
As a result of which during the voting process of 2020-21 NBA MVP, Rose received a first-place MVP vote from a fan. This was surprising considering the fact he had started only 3-games this season. The 32-year old played the role of a mentor to the young Knicks roster.
Though Nikola Jokic, won by a landslide of first-place votes and was declared the 2021 NBA MVP. It was D-rose getting the 1 vote from a fan that surprised everyone as he finished 9th on the list behind the likes of Stephen Curry and Luka Doncic.
