“Damian Lillard could change his mind and go to the Lakers”: LeBron James is looking to team up with the Blazers superstar this 2021 offseason

Damian Lillard may want out of Portland and could eventually join forces with LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the Los Angeles Lakers. 

The LeBron James and the Lakers and the Portland TrailBlazers both, surprisingly, have something in common this postseason: the two Western Conference powerhouses of sorts got booted in the first round in 6 games. Damian Lillard, of course, has become used to postseason disappointment by now as the Blazers have the face of ‘mediocrity in May’ out West. 

The Lakers on the other hand, had a slew of unprecedented injuries ravage their team; mainly LeBron James and Anthony Davis. This led to an unhealthy roster going into the Playoffs to defend their title against a young and hungry Suns team. 

With LeBron’s championship window closing at a rate that many feel is quite rapid, he’ll need more help than just Dennis Schroder and Montrezl Harrell, the latter of who got little to no playing time in the postseason.

LeBron James has always had his eye on a particular guard in the Western Conference and it shouldn’t shock anyone if he were to intensely pursue him this offseason. 

LeBron James would look to pursue Damian Lillard if the latter would become unhappy with the Blazers. 

The Portland TrailBlazers front office grew tired of wasting Dame’s prime on continual first round exits as they fired the 2nd winningest coach in Blazer history, Terry Stotts. It is highly unlikely that Lillard would request a trade before having played a single game with his new head coach by Stephen A. Smith doesn’t rule out the possibility. 

“What if Damian Lillard ended up changing his mind? He’s told me for years he ain’t interested. What if he changed his mind and decides to go to the Lakers? What if he changed his mind? I mean, it would change everything.”

To be fair, this sort of a take could be said about anybody in the league. However, in an effort to keep this narrative going, we should not rule out a LeBron James-Damian Lillard team up in the slightest. Only, it may happen a year from now and not in this 2021 offseason. 

After all, LeBron James is quoted as saying a few years back, “Give me a point guard like Damian Lillard and I’ll show you how appreciated he’ll be.”
