“If you want to go, let’s go” – WWE official recalls locker room confrontation between the Rock and former WWE star
WWE official recalls locker room confrontation between the Rock and former WWE star. The argument between them almost became physical.
Like any other place in the world, the WWE backstage is filled with people who often agree or disagree with each other’s opinions. These disagreements can sometimes be settled verbally. But sometimes things get too heated for anyone to act with rationale.

Bruce Prichard, the Executive Director of SmackDown and Raw, recently spoke about one such incident. On his Something To Wrestle podcast, Prichard recalled the Rock having enough of Ahmed Johnson and challenging him to an actual fight.

“It was in the dressing room. Ahmed was complaining about something, and Rock just kind of, basically, ‘If you want to go, let’s go.’ Ahmed backed down and nobody was stopping anybody in that one. I was there in the dressing room for that. Again, it’s a lot of that much ado about nothing, but, yea, so when you hear the D’Lo thing you say, ‘Yeah, I can see that. D’Lo is a tough son of a b*tch…The Rock is up there in the top 5 guys you would never want to mess with.”
Jim Ross recently confirmed on his Grilling JR podcast that there were casual discussions to make Ahmed the first black WWE Champion.
“Yeah, there was that talk because that’s how impressive he looked. And believable. His ethnicity didn’t hurt him either to have a black WWE Champion, WWF Champion; it’s due. The time was there.”
However, Ahmed was lacking in other aspects that eventually worked against him.
“Ahmed didn’t realize that when you drop your arm three times, it’s over. There were things that he needed to catch up on as far just basic psychology, but there was some discussion at some point. This guy looks like a champion. Look at him. The intensity. The look on his face. His facial expressions. His body. So there was some casual discussion, but I wouldn’t frame it to be anything more than that, at least in my take. Casual discussion.”
In the end, the honor of being the first Black WWE Champion ironically went to The Rock.
