Glenn Phillips cricket: Kiwi batsman plays unbelievable reverse scoop off Dan Douthwaite in T20 Blast 2021
Glenn Phillips: The New Zealand batsman put on display his innovative and attacking instincts at the County Ground today.
During a South Group match for the ongoing T20 Blast 2021 between Gloucestershire and Glamorgan in Bristol, Gloucestershire batsman Glenn Phillips continued his run-scoring spree in his maiden Blast season.
Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the 10th over, Phillips registered his maiden half-century in the tournament scoring an eye-catching 94* (41) comprising of nine fours and six sixes.
Phillips shared an unbeaten 130-run partnership for the third wicket alongside Benny Howell (53*) which powered Gloucestershire to 216/2 in 20 overs after Glamorgan captain Chris Cooke invited them to bat first.
A highlight of Phillips’ hard-hitting shots lies in him playing an unbelievable reverse scoop off Glamorgan pacer Dan Douthwaite. Having exposed all his stumps at first, the swift nature with which the right-hand batsman executed the shot was worth watching.
In six innings this season, Phillips has scored 266 runs at an average and strike rate of 66.50 and 176.15 to currently be the sixth on the list of highest run-scorers of the tournament.
With bowling figures of 2-0-21-1 each, Glamorgan’s Callum Taylor and Marnus Labuschagne were the pick of their bowlers.
