“Michael Jordan playing for Washington Wizards was my favorite moment from his career”: Kevin Durant loved the Bulls legend and GOAT for coming to DC to play

Michael Jordan was far from his best during his Washington Wizards stint, but a lot of people admire his time in the capital city.

Michael Jordan is considered the greatest basketball player of all time by millions of people across the globe. Especially after what he has conquered in the NBA.

While people remember his exceptional performances, six titles with Chicago Bulls, camaraderie with Scottie Pippen, they don’t remember MJ’s stint with the Wizards. The legend came out of retirement to join the Washington Wizards.

After winning six titles with the Bulls and leaving a historic legacy Jordan decided to hang up his boots. His relationship with the general manager Jerry Krause soured and it brought an end to the Bulls legacy.

All of Phil Jackson, MJ, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman had only one year in their contract and MJ was sure that it was the end of the road. Hence the retirement was in anger and disgust.

But then Washington Wizards’ majority owner Abe Pollin approached MJ with an offer. He wanted the Six-time NBA Champion to become the new president of basketball operations. While Jordan was interested in the role he still wanted to help the team from inside the court.

Hence he decided to put the shirt on again and came out of retirement. Although he was past his prime but he was still dropping consistent numbers for the Wizards. He averaged 21.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. He was far from his best version but still, he was fun to watch.

“So I could catch a train and see the greatest player play,” KD shared how MJ representing Wizards was his favourite Michael Jordan moment.

Recently in a podcast with Jay Williams Kevin Durant revealed that his best Michael Jordan moment was when MJ came to Washington:

“For me personally it was when he decided to come to play in my hometown. I felt so inspired because you hear about MJ all the time and seemed like he is so far away.”

“Now suddenly he is in the same city. So I could catch a train and see the greatest player play. Even though he was older, he was still killing it.”

Durant has a strong connection with Washington as that’s where he was born. He grew up in Maryland and has always valued his hometown and family more than anything. Even now during the offseason, Durantula is often found in the greater D.C. area as he roots vocally for the Redskins every NFL season.

Hence MJ coming to the Wizards was music to his ears. KD always considered Jordan as his inspiration and now watching him day in day out for the Wizards was a different feeling for him.
