“Trae Young stepping on referee’s foot shouldn’t decide the series”: Skip Bayless laments Hawks star’s ankle injury as reason for their Game 3 loss vs Bucks
Trae Young suffered a freak ankle injury in Game 3 today. Skip Bayless couldn’t quite believe the fashion in which the injury occurred.
It’s been a long time since the Milwaukee Bucks have truly been considered favorites to win an NBA championship. The very last time this occurred was back in Lew Alcindor’s heyday in the 70s.
Now Lew may have come into the league a better player than Giannis is today. But Bucks fans would much rather prefer their Greek Freak having a ring and Lew finishing ringless in Milwaukee than the other way round. Injury to Trae Young would be a significant boost for that.
The Atlanta Hawks fought tooth and nail at home in Game tonight. But they were hard done by some terrible injury luck – particularly given who it happened to.
Trae Young has been the best player in this year’s Eastern Conference playoffs bar none. Losing him to an ankle injury (or him playing at less than 100%) reduces any punchers’ chance they had this series.
“Trae Young stepping on referee’s foot shouldn’t decide the series”: Skip Bayless
It seems that as an Oklahoma Sooners fan and a native of that city, Skip Bayless was really torn tonight. He definitely prefers Trae Young to be the Eastern Conference champion over the Greek Freak.
He did his best to take the shine off the Bucks’ victory prematurely tonight with this 4th quarter tweet. This came at a time when the Hawks were still leading the game with Lou Williams on the floor.
Please don’t tell me this Hawks-Bucks series just got decided by Trae Young stepping on a REF’S foot and turning his ankle. At least the ref’s foot was out of bounds, so you can’t blame him. But talk about a freak accident. Fitting, though, for these injury-riddled playoffs.

Young did eventually come out and finish the game on the floor. But he was clearly wincing with pain at various points of the quarter and naturally, off his shooting rhythm. This allowed Khris Middleton to drop buckets on his team with no answer.
It is unclear what the extent of Trae’s injury is at the moment. He’ll definitely try to play through it, but if you’re a neutral, you can probably already sense the resignation in the Hawks camp.
