“Michael Jordan said I’m going to sit here in the air”: Magic Johnson describes the GOAT’s greatest play ever – a 360 dunk on Hall of Famer David Robinson
Magic Johnson has only talked trash one time in his entire life, and his misfortune was that he did it against Michael Jordan on the Dream Team.
The Lakers legend and the greatest point guard of all time was once on Jimmy Kimmel’s Late Night Show, over 5 years ago. He talked about the only time he’s ever talked trash in his entire career.
“Thanks a lot, Jimmy, for bringing this up. I’ve never talked trash but one time in my entire life, it was with Jordan. First ever time, ever talking trash.”
“So we’re with the Dream Team. And for 3 days in a row, we had came into a tie, because what coach Daly did, he split the team up – East vs West.”
“So Barkley, Jordan, Larry Bird, Pippen and Patrick Ewing all played in the East. And then we had the West guys – myself, David Robinson, Malone, Mullin, Drexler and John Stockton. And we’d play every day – tied.”
“So this is the 4th day, and we got out on them about 12 to 2, and I said ‘I’m going to rattle his chain a little bit.’ So I turned to him and I said ‘If you don’t turn into Air Jordan, we’re going to blow you out today.'”
As you can expect, the consequences of Magic’s actions on his team were rather severe. For he’d poked the one bear you should never wake up from its slumber – the wrath of MJ.
Michael Jordan 360-dunked on David Robinson in Dream Team practice after Magic’s trash talk
Magic continued his description of the greatest player he’s ever seen thus:
“Jimmy, his eyes got big. Usually his tongue comes out right here (gestures), now it’s way out (exaggerated gesture). He broke the huddle, he hit a 3 and he’s looking at me. So he came down again, hit another 3.”
“So the greatest shot of all time – now I’ve been involved in all 3 of them. First Dr. J walked out in the air, out of bounds, reverse layup. Michael Jordan in 1991 came down on us with the right hand, tongue out, he’s switching mid-air to the left.”

“Now this is the greatest shot I’ve seen. He came down the right side, took off. David Robinson took off, and he said ‘Ok, I’m going to sit here in the air, cuz I know David Robinson’s gonna go down.'”
“So David Robinson went to the ground, he 360’d, tongue moving out, and dunked it.”
Magic went on to do his best impression of the incident in question for the studio audience. Jimmy Kimmel was hardly the only one stunned at this description of the greatest player ever to step on the hardwood – we all were.
