“LeBron James would tell Ben Simmons to switch hands”: Channing Frye urges Sixers star to start shooting with his right hand after playoff shooting struggles

Channing Frye joins the ever-increasing crowd of NBA fans who think Ben Simmons shoots with the wrong hand. He believes LeBron James is in that camp too.

Channing Frye and LeBron James were teammates for their title run with the Cavs in 2016. Frye was a ‘tweener’ of sorts who’d get most of his buckets away from the basket.

His shooting range acted as a perfect complement for LeBron, and he’d often slot in for Kevin Love in that stretch forward role whenever KLove would be on the bench or unavailable.

Frye knows inside out how LeBron James thinks about basketball and approaches the game. And he also thinks he knows the advice that James would have for Ben Simmons if the latter was a teammate.

Frye was recently on Dan Patrick’s podcast for an interview. He talked about his experience in the NBA and also about the state of the league today. He revealed how LeBron had a special ‘look’ for teammates who’d mess up:

“LeBron does not yell at his teammates that much. Not as often as you’d think. He’s more of a look guy. LeBron got looks to give when you’re playing with a lack of confidence.”

“If he passed you the ball and you don’t shoot it because you missed 2 (shots), he’ll look at you like you’re crazy. And he goes ‘You don’t think I know what I’m doing? Shoot the ball.’ And I’d be like ‘Dang, you’re LeBron and I probably should shoot the ball next time.'”

“It’s all good, it’s all encouraging. LeBron’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever had.”

Patrick then went on to ask an interesting question about how LeBron would deal with Ben Simmons as a teammate, given his shooting woes in the playoffs. Channing took off his filter and said:

“I’m just going to speak for him (LeBron). I’d tell him (Ben Simmons) to switch hands. LeBron is left-handed and he shoots right-handed but he does things left-handed.”

“Ben, you already can’t get any lower cuz you don’t take shots. So let’s work with the other hand, because then it’s new, it’s fresh and you don’t have the ‘yips’.”
