“Is Draymond Green as annoying in person as he is on television?”: When Kevin Durant defused Charles Barkley’s feud with the Warriors star during 2018 NBA WCF vs Rockets
Kevin Durant might be a savage tweeter, but he’s a peacemaker in real life. He proved this by mollifying the feud between Draymond Green and Charles Barkley.
The NBA gained a lot of fans during the Splash Brothers’ peak years in Oakland. These new fans would all have been shocked by the dismissive treatment that Barkley reserved especially for them.
Chuck has always claimed that teams which rely on jumpshots are susceptible to failures in the playoffs. The problem with this hypothesis was that jumpshots are the very basis of the Warriors’ offense.
Barkley seemed like the average old head who didn’t like the new NBA at those points. People might have forgotten many of those rants, but Chuck’s refusal to give any Warriors players credit for their individual performances did rankle Warriors fans.
When Kevin Durant played peacemaker between Draymond Green and Charles Barkley
KD and Draymond seemed like the Warriors’ tightest pairing other than the Splash Brothers during their championship runs. Draymond knew how and when to get easy buckets to KD on cuts and drives. KD appreciated this fact a ton.
Now, Charles Barkley and Draymond had had a war of words going on for a while regarding Green’s dirty play. Chuck had repeatedly stated his distaste for Draymond’s brash attitude and constant complaining and chatter with referees on the show.
So when the time came for Durant to go up to their in-stadium studio after a Game 3 blowout win over the Rockets in the 2018 Western Conference Finals, Barkley couldn’t resist taking a dig at Draymond: “Is Draymond Green as annoying in person as he is on television?”
Durant’s answer was honestly an amazing one: “You should go talk to him downstairs if you’ve got a problem with him!”
Barkley was quite confrontational with KD all through this post-game presser. Durant battled back with a ton of great comebacks and proper basketball analysis, leaving Chuck little scope for displeasure.
This incident, among many others, is part of the reason why the most popular player in the Eastern Conference doesn’t get along with the most popular NBA pundit on television.
