Tom Brady is set to return to the New England Patriots this year, but Patriots defensive tackle Byron Cowart had a stern warning for Brady.

As you all know, the Patriots and Brady won a staggering six Super Bowls over the course of 20 years, building the most dominant dynasty in NFL history. However, following the 2019-20 season, people suspected that Brady was finally going to leave New England.

Tension had supposedly been building up between Brady and head coach Bill Belichick, and at the end of the day, Brady may have simply wanted to prove that he wasn’t a product of Belichick’s system.

Well, he definitely did that, winning a Super Bowl in his first year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, after virtually no offseason while playing with a torn MCL. Coming back to New England, he’ll definitely receive some tribute but Cowart doesn’t want Brady expecting much more.

Tom Brady Won’t Be Receiving A Warm Welcome From New England’s Byron Cowart

At first glance, it’s easy to dismiss Cowart’s comments as compared to Tom Brady, he isn’t exactly the kind of dominant player you’d expect to be throwing down this kind of shade.

However, at the same time, it’s also perhaps a testament to Cowart’s competitive mindset. Maybe the ‘ceremony’ Cowart was referring to was a metaphorical one, implying that the Patriots won’t be taking it easy on Brady or anything like that on the field.

Perhaps, all he means is that when the Patriots line up to play the Buccaneers that day on October 3rd during week four, he doesn’t want his team thinking “We’re playing Patriots legend Tom Brady” but instead “We’re playing an opponent team with a quarterback we have to take down”, carrying the same mindset as any other game.

However, if Cowart did really mean a legitimate ceremony, then he is probably a little out of line. While the Pats won’t be going out of their way to throw an insane party for Brady or anything, they’re sure to pay tribute in some shape or form to the quarterback who put them on the map and made the best NFL team across two decades.

This Patriots-Buccaneers matchup is probably one of the most if not the most anticipated regular season game of all time due to the massive storylines behind it. Brady vs. Belichick, Brady comes home, did Brady make a mistake by leaving New England? Everything will be brought up during this historic NFL game.
