“A father rightly reacts very emotionally”– Toto Wolff responds to the fake statement released by a publication after Max Verstappen’s crash.

A recent report airing online claimed that Jos Verstappen doesn’t want Toto Wolff to call them ever again after he reportedly failed to check on Max Verstappen’s health after the crash.

Soon, Verstappen Snr. resorted to Twitter to clarify that he never said a statement like this and never talked to the source mentioned by all the news portals, including us. He wrote while replying to a deleted tweet of Formule1: “Haven’t had a conversation with F1 inside at all.”

However, Wolff was already confronted with this statement by media, and the Austrian said, a father always responds like this when their son goes through such an intense incident.

“A father rightly reacts very emotionally to this because his son has had a serious accident. From their perspective that is very understandable.”

“You have to respect this emotional situation. The competition between Red Bull, their drivers and us has always been intense,” Wolff said to  RTL.

Mercedes have done the same.

Wolff then legitimized Red Bull’s reaction by saying that Mercedes would have reacted in a similar fashion if the things were reversed, though Wolff disagrees with some Red Bull leaders going personal.

“The emotions are running high of course. I think if we had been on the other side, we would have looked at the situation in the same way,” Wolff said.

While accepting Red Bull’s reaction, he also claimed there would have still been the difference and defended Mercedes’ ‘disgraced’ celebration by saying that they were under the impression of Verstappen being fine after the last radio conversation with FIA’s Michael Masi.

“What we wouldn’t have done – come out with personal accusations so quickly,” says Wolff. “Horner had told Masi on the on-board radio that his driver had emerged from his wreckage unscathed, thank goodness, and that there were no injuries. We adapted our response to that.”
