“Only Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James can save Team USA now”: NBA Twitter clamors for Lakers and Blazers superstars to aid Damian Lillard and co following abysmal loss to France
NBA fans want LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony to come to Team USA’s aid after they blew a game to Evan Fournier and Team France.
Team USA has just accomplished something that hasn’t been done in 17 years: lose a basketball game at the Olympics. LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony brought Team USA back to their glory days with the ‘Redeem Team’ and the equally stacked 2012 Olympic team; both of which saw Melo set numerous records for the United States.
After losing two straight exhibition games to start off Tokyo 2020, all seemed fine after Damian Lillard and company won the next two against Argentina and Spain quite handily. However, in their first group stage matchup against France, guys like Dame and Kevin Durant seemingly disappeared in the second half, leading to an 83-76 France victory.
Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James are both top 3 in scoring for Team USA all-time with Kevin Durant sandwiched in the middle. With KD not showing up tonight, fans are calling for the former two Olympic legends to suit up once again for the United States.

Carmelo Anthony holds several records for not just Team USA basketball, but Olympic basketball as a whole. He holds the records for most 3s made in a game with 9 and most 3s attempted in a game with 15 along with having the fourth highest scoring game in Olympic basketball history as he dropped 31 points against Australia in 2016.
LeBron James is no scrub either when it comes to his Team USA experience as he’s won two Golds in 2008 and 2012 while also racking up assists and points. He leads all United States basketball Olympians with 88 career assists and is tied for second in games played with David Robinson.
With all of the glory and highlights both LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony brought forth for Team USA, NBA fans online have been clamoring for their return to Olympic play. “Only Melo can save Team USA,” said one fan while another claimed James wouldn’t have let a loss like this happen if he were around.
