“Stewards to seal and impound car five” – Aston Martin to appeal against Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification at Hungary
“Stewards to seal and impound car five” – Aston Martin to appeal to the FIA after Sebastian Vettel was disqualified from the Hungarian Grand Prix for fuel sample-related issues.
Sebastian Vettel had a wonderful Hungarian Grand Prix stripped off due to low fuel collection post the race. He had finished P2, but couldn’t produce the mandated one-litre sample of fuel from his Aston Martin.
It was a race with both heartbreak and joy. Despite the chaos, Seb found his way. 💚

FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer could only acquire a 300ml sample, a long way off from the requirement. But Aston Martin are insisting a total of 1.74 litres of fuel was there in the car. The team has now launched an appeal to the FIA International Court of Appeal. The race stewards issued a statement confirming this, and the procedure involved.
“The FIA Technical Department representatives were asked by the stewards to seal and impound car five until such time as the notice of appeal is received or the FIA International Court of Appeal makes any determinations as relevant.
“In making this determination, Aston Martin hereby declare that the removal of the various components to safely transport car five to the FIA facility in no way compromises the evidence and has no impact upon the matter being appealed.”
Aston Martin now have a total of four days to formally confirm they intend to take part in the proceedings. If they win, it will help them and Vettel recover the 18 points they had won. Due to the points being stripped off, Aston Martin find themselves in the seventh position with just 48 points.
