“I’m competing with Allen Iverson, Steve Nash, Chris Paul”: Trae Young Has Lofty Ambitions As He Says His Mindset “Is Not Luka Doncic”
Trae Young doesn’t have his mind set on passing Luka Doncic, but instead, on all time greats like Allen Iverson, Steve Nash, and Chris Paul.
Young has reached some incredible heights in his young NBA career, and last year was the crowning jewel of it all as he finally took the Hawks to the playoffs. Not only that, he took them to the Conference Finals, upsetting the number four seed New York Knicks and number one seed Philadelphia 76ers in back to back rounds.
Young’s incredible season resulted in a super max contract, as the Atlanta Hawks truly believe that he’s the face of the franchise, someone they can believe in long-term.
Trae Young and Hawks are expected to finalize a five-year, $170M extension which could be pushed to $201.5M with a supermax trigger, per @sam_amick pic.twitter.com/2douIRQ188

Trae Young Wants Himself To Be Comapred To All-Time Point Guards Like Allen Iverson, Steve Nash, And Chris Paul And Not Luka Doncic
Young was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in what will go down as one of the most historic draft day trades as they traded away their initial pick to the Dallas Mavericks who drafted Luka Doncic.
As a result, Young and Doncic are going to be forever linked to each other. However, Young doesn’t want to have any of that. While he respects Doncic and is good friends with him, Young isn’t going to be part of any conversation involving comparisons to him.
Instead, Young has his eyes on higher targets, including all time great guards like AI, Steve Nash, and CP3. Those guys have changed the game, and Young wants to be up there with them some day.

It makes sense that Young wants to see himself on a greater pedestal. Doncic is one of the best players in the league currently, but Young is trying to make his own legacy.
For two players drafted in the same draft class, linked by a trade, Young probably doesn’t want to be in Luka’s shadows, but instead be put up next to some of the greatest to ever play the game.
