“Believe that I’m going to be like ‘Slim Jesus’ in Chicago”: Alex Caruso hilariously embraces Chi-Town culture following Lakers departure and subsequent Bulls signing
Alex Caruso responds to a ‘Hoodville’ meme and looks to embrace Chicago culture after having signed with the Bulls along with DeMar DeRozan.
The Los Angeles Lakers, for the second offseason in a row, have re-vamped their roster surrounding LeBron James and Anthony Davis. This 2021 offseason however, saw an even more drastic change from 2020’s as Laker fans mourn the departure of Alex Caruso from their squad. Caruso has officially signed on to be a Chicago Bull on a 4-year deal worth $37 million.
Caruso was the final remaining piece connecting the pre-LeBron James era Lakers to this current iteration and with him gone, fans may find a level of disconnect with guys like Kendrick Nunn, Kent Bazemore, and Carmelo Anthony. Nevertheless, this roster, on paper, is better than the one that was rolled out during the 2020-21 season.
According to several reports, Alex Caruso was offered a deal by the Lakers but was much less than what the market had to offer. Spending around $9 million a year on an athletic, glue-guy defender like Carushow makes sense for a budding franchise like the Chicago Bulls.
Alex Caruso hilariously acknowledges the Chicago Bulls memes that are being thrown out on social media.
Alex Caruso hasn’t even worn his Bulls jersey as of yet and he’s already integrating himself with Chi-Town culture. A popular page on Instagram known as ‘Hoodville’ compared Caruso to a Caucasian rapper from Chicago who goes by the name of ‘Slim Jesus’. Alex actually responded in the comments to this and had it pinned by the page admin.

Many fans online have also found it to be ironic that the memes surrounding Alex Caruso and Michael Jordan have come a full circle now that he’s a Bulls player. It’s safe to say that Chi-town is rocking with this new signing.
The Chicago Bulls had a great offseason as a whole as they signed Lonzo Ball on a 4 year deal while also trading for DeMar DeRozan to alleviate some of the scoring burden off of Zach Lavine. Though they had to give up Thad Young to acquire DeRozan, the former Spur brings more to the table for the Bulls in terms of Playoff contention.
