“I just want to be myself”: Kyle Kuzma fires shots at LeBron James and the Lakers while describing what he looks forward to in Washington
Wizards’ Kyle Kuzma appears to take shots at LeBron James, the Lakers when asked what he’s looking forward to in Washington
Toward the end of July, the Lakers made a big ripple, as they snatched up Russell Westbrook from the Wizards. In exchange, the Lakers sent the Wizards Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Montrezl Harrell.
Kyle Kuzma was drafted by the Lakers at the 27th spot in the 2017 Draft. After showing promise in his first two years, Kuzma had to settle for a supporting role in LeBron James and Anthony Davis‘ shadow. As he accepted his reduced role, Kuzma’s performance got affected as well. This often ended in him taking stray comments from Laker fans. However, after being traded from the Lakers and the initial shock, Kuz is looking at the bright side now.

Kyle Kuzma was having a career year when LeBron James joined the Lakers. With LeBron being out for a majority of the season, Kuzma was putting up big numbers. He was averaging a career-high 18.7 points per game while shooting over 45% from the field. However, with Anthony Davis’ arrival, Kuz had to take a step back and accept a reduced role. While that helped him get a ring, it did not help with his player growth.
When a fan asked him on Twitter to describe what he was looking forward to in Washington. Kuz had a subtle shot at LeBron James and the Lakers in his reply.

This isn’t the first time Kuzma has mentioned the lack of a consistent role with the Lakers. Around a month before he was traded, he talked to Bleacher Report and said,
“My biggest thing is I just want to play within a consistent role. If I have that ability, I’ll be able to showcase what I can really do. There were parts of this year—and even anywhere else in my career—when I’m in a consistent space, I’m out there handling the ball, making teammates better, scoring, shooting, defending, rebounding. I think if I’m in that space, I’ll be good.”
It would be nice to see Kuzma with a fresh start and a chance to prove himself in Washington.
