Rohit Sharma talks about police having threatened him for breaking windows
Rohit Sharma has been enjoying a fabulous year in limited overs cricket, having had a splendid Champions Trophy, before being appointed as the captain of the Indian national side for the Sri Lanka ODI and T20 series.
Rohit has excelled in the captain’s role, leading from the front by scoring his 3rd ODI double hundred and the joint fastest T20I hundred.
He is currently in Mumbai, preparing for the final T20I to be held at the Wankhede tomorrow, after which he will fly off to South Africa for the Test series that is scheduled to begin on the 5th of January in Cape Town.
Rohit was recently on the famous ‘Breakfast with Champions’ show, hosted by Gaurav Kapur, wherein the duo engaged in some very candid conversation about Rohit Sharma’s childhood.
Rohit went down memory lane, talking about how he was once almost detained by the police for having broken down some window panes and around his society while playing cricket.
“My family always liked cricket. In a day, if not for all the 24 hours, at least 16 hours we used to watch cricket. All my chachas (uncles) and buas (aunts) have played cricket, not at the highest level but in school and college. Of course (my uncles got involved in my game). When I used to play in our building, my chacha used to watch me from top, checking my batting. I have broken a lot of window glasses. There was a police complaint against me for breaking glasses,” Rohit said.
“Once police came and threatened with putting me in jail if repeated. All the neighbours were troubled by us daily (breaking glasses). We were three to four of us who played cricket always. Later we used to go to grounds and play but we never completely let go of playing in our building. We never gave up on that,”
From breaking window panes to breaking records, Rohit Sharma has come a long way.
