WATCH: Nick Kyrgios asks a fan to ‘Shut the f**k up” during the Australian Open
Nick Kyrgios appears to be more focusses this time round, keeping his antics down during the Brisbane Open and appearing to be more calm and collected on court.
In his first round match against Brazilian, Rogerio Dutra Sliva, Kyrgios steamrolled to an easy 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 win, to progress to the second round of his home Grand Slam.
Kyrgios was on the money right from the word go, racking up 16 aces and keeping the points short to set up a second round clash with Victor Troicki.
Yet, there was one incident where Kyrgios lost his cool, treading the lines of unsportsmanlike behaviour, when he asked a fan to ‘Shut the f**k up” after he was making some noise during Kyrgios’ service motion.
Check out the video:
Kyrgios was given a court violation for unsportsmanlike behaviour for having asked the fan to stay quiet(and for the kind of words used while doing that).
But apart from that, it was rather smooth sailing for Kyrgios, who played some solid Tennis and progressed in less than an hour and a half.
Kyrgios seemed in high spirits in the post match interview and the presser, talking about his chances for the Australian Open and his next round opponent Victor Troicki.
“I went out there pretty nervous. I’m hitting the ball well, but to go out there in front of the home crowd again… you want to do well in front of your home crowd. Just to make them proud.” Kyrgios said.
“I’m excited to be back in Melbourne. A couple of years ago I made the quarter-finals here, so I’m hoping to emulate that and hopefully go even further.” the Australian said.
On his chances against Troicki in the second round, Kyrgios said that he was confident about his chances, as he had beaten him in Montreal.
“I played him [Troicki] last year in Montreal and won, so I’m feeling confident.” Kyrgios concluded.
