Evin Lewis says yes to IPL but no to PSL
West Indian star Evin Lewis was one of the most sought after players in the IPL auction last week, as the dashing opener was on the wish list of almost every franchise.
After a fierce bidding war, it was Mumbai Indians who eventually nabbed the opener, as Lewis joins the long list of West Indians who have played for the Mumbai Indians.
Lewis was extremely excited ahead of the IPL season, and was delighted to be picked by the most successful franchise in IPL history.
“I am obviously delighted to have been picked by Mumbai Indians. After the year I had, I was looking forward to seeing how the auction unfolded and I’m honoured and very pleased to know I’m going to be part of such a successful franchise which was the winner in the 2017 edition of the IPL. It should be great fun playing in the IPL and it’s something I have been keen to take part in,” Evin Lewis quoted.
Unfortunately for PSL fans, Lewis will not take part in the domestic league, as he busy with national commitments with the West Indies. West Indies will take part in the qualifiers for the 2019 World Cup, and Lewis will be a crucial part in their quest to qualify for the mega event.
“I am really looking forward to helping the West Indies qualify for the World Cup in 2019 by winning in the qualifiers which start in March of this year. It would be a great achievement for me if I can contribute to this cause.
“West Indies is a proud cricketing region and I will do my utmost to help us qualify for the major tournament that the World Cup is. Regretfully, I will not be taking part in the PSL this year but I would like to reassure fans that whether I play for the West Indies or any Twenty20 league, my intention is just to be the best cricketer I can be,” Lewis conceded.
Lewis has quickly become one of the most exciting batsmen in world cricket, with the opener’s stroke play in particular drawing praise from all quarters. He will certainly be someone to watch out for, as the Wankhede stadium will be eagerly awaiting the arrival of West Indian cricket’s latest superstar!
