Novak Djokovic and Radek Stepanek part ways
Novak Djokovic has just parted ways with his entire coaching staff, ending his 4 month stint with Radek Stepanek shortly after parting ways with Andre Agassi.
While Agassi had joined the team before last year’s French Open in a bid to get Novak’s career back on track, Stepanek just came in a few months back, joining Djokovic’s coaching team on a part-time basis after retiring from the game.
“After Miami Novak Djokovic and his tennis coach Radek Stepanek decided to end their cooperation,” said a statement on Djokovic’s website (www.novakdjokovic.com).
“The private relationship with Stepanek was and will remain great and Novak has enjoyed working with him and learning from him. He remains grateful and appreciative of all the support he has received from Radek during the last period.”
Djokovic is currently recuperating from an elbow injury that he had suffered during the Australian Open, crashing out in the Round of 16 itself.
Djokovic who was already coming off a 6-month injury layoff would have expected to get back to his best this year, but an early injury has marred his chances of enjoying a successful comeback.
Tinkering with his coaching staff too didn’t bring any good fortune but Djokovic would be hoping that swiping the slate clean(again) might trigger a comeback of sorts.
Djokovic suffered a shock loss to Benoit Paire in the 2nd round of the Miami Open and admitted that he is finding it extremely tough to play at the level that he once did.
Djokovic though has confirmed his participation for the Monte Carlo Masters which is scheduled to begin on the 14th of April.
