Sania Mirza announces pregnancy on Twitter

Sania Mirza and husband Shoaib Malik have announced the arrival of their baby by putting up a very innovative message on Twitter.

The couple posted a picture of two of their jerseys, with their baby’s jersey in middle, along with a milk bottle on top of it.

The tweet read, “#BabyMirzaMalik”.

While no official statement had been released by Sania at first, she later went onto confirm that she was indeed expecting a baby.

“We are soon to become parents,” Sania said.

“Having thought about it for a while, we both felt right now is the correct time to start a family. When we found out, we were ecstatic and couldn’t wait to give out this news to our fans and well-wishers.

“We are very excited to enter this new phase of our lives and look forward to our journey as parents,” she added.

Mirza has been struggling with a knee injury since October and was on the road to recovery, but with the pregnancy now, she should be out of the sport for the foreseeable future.

Sania Mirza had earlier confirmed that the baby would sport the surname ‘Mirza-Malik’ in order to avoid any ‘India-Pakistan’ controversy around her child.

It will be interesting to see how Mirza comes back to the tour after her pregnancy or if in fact she goes onto take retirement.

Indian Tennis fans all around the world be hoping to see Sania on the court again for one final surge for that world number one doubles ranking.
