Despite 12 Years, Chris Paul’s Legacy In Question As He Gets Told He Sucks By Clippers and Pelicans Fans
Chris Paul came into the NBA as a highly touted point guard in the 2005 NBA Draft. After getting selected 4th overall by the New Orleans Hornets, he would immediately get to work in trying to prove just how great of a player he is and can be.
The Hornets (now the Pelicans), won 20 more games than the year prior to Paul’s arrival and would make the Playoffs 3 times out of the 6 years he spent in the city. It was in December of 2011 that a disgruntled CP3 would eventually get traded to the Los Angeles Clippers, not the Lakers.
Here, he would spend another 6 years, forging the ‘Lob City’ Clippers with a dynamic frontcourt of Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan. The Clips would consistently be a threat to win the championship all throughout the early to mid 2010s because of one man: Chris Paul.

‘Chris Paul sucks’ chants break out against the Clippers and the Pelicans
Chris Paul would eventually get traded from the Clippers to the Houston Rockets in 2017 after it was clear the Blake-Chris-Deandre trio had run its course following several Playoff disappointments. In total, Paul spent 12 years leading New Orleans and Los Angeles.
Despite this, as of 2022, chants that he sucks have broken out on countless occasions whenever he plays those 2 teams. Most recently, playing against the Pelicans has gotten quite testy given Jose Alvarado’s distaste for the veteran point guard.
Chris Paul got a “Chris Paul sucks” chants at both a Clippers game and a Pelicans game. The two cities he spent the majority of his career in. That’s hard to do.

Fans have taken it upon themselves to boo CP3 any chance they get so as to stick up for Jose and the rest of the Pelicans. When it comes to the Clippers, all ties were cut during the infamous ‘Chris Paul tried to beat me up’ locker room fiasco after a Rockets-Clips game.
Why is Chris Paul having insults hurled at him by fans?
It’s quite strange to see that the general consensus amongst fans who he played for for a dozen years is that he needs to be booed. Though, looking at just how Chris Paul approaches the game, it makes sense.
He’s someone who is known for being an agitator, whether it’s through small things that go unnoticed such as staredowns, locking arms to initiate contact, or much more obvious ones like egregious flopping.
Also, the fact that a lot of time has passed since he’s played for these teams could be a reason for why the connection simply isn’t there any longer between them.
