Shikhar Dhawan pulls out of the training session midway
Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has pulled out of a training session midway just ahead of the one-off test between India and Afghanistan.
There is a lot of hype regarding the India and Afghanistan test as the match would be the first test of the Afghanistan side after it received recognition from the ICC. Spirits will be on a high as the two teams lock horns on the 14th of June. The match will be played in Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
On the eve of the encounter, Shikhar had started the training drill normally but pulled out after sometime. It is not certain whether Dhawan had a major issue or he had a little niggle. However, this is certainly not good news for Indian cricket fans.
All the same, if he is not available for the test, it will make matters easy for the team management as then they will go with the opening combination of Murali Vijay and KL Rahul.
Between the IPL season and the foreign tour of Ireland and England, this is the only international fixture and hence has attracted a lot of attention. Although the fact that the likes of Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah are not featuring in the squad has somewhat dampened the spirits. But still, seeing their favourite team at the test level is always a delight for the Classic test fans.
During the IPL also, Dhawan had to miss a couple of matches due to an elbow injury. However, he was back to full fitness shortly and resumed services for his franchise. Dhawan also helped SRH get off to some quick starts.
If there is actually some serious issue and the southpaw is not available for the match, it would certainly be a setback for the Indian team. The left-hander is also pretty much in the scheme of things as far as the Indian tour England and the following overseas tours are concerned.
