“That’s how you make it count”: Wasim Jaffer applauds Shubman Gill for scoring maiden Test century in Chattogram Test
Shubman Gill has been termed as one of the best batting prospects in India, and the young lad from Punjab is proving his worth around formats now. After scoring his first ODI century earlier this year against Zimbabwe, Gill scored his maiden test century against Bangladesh in Chattogram.
India scored 404 runs in the 1st innings and restricted Bangladesh to just 150 runs, where Kuldeep Yadav scalped a fifer. India decided against enforcing the follow-on, and the duo of KL Rahul and Shubman Gill came to bat again. Rahul failed yet again, but Gill was in no mood to stop in the 2nd innings.
The audacity to play a reverse sweep when you are at 95 runs speaks volumes of Gill’s confidence. On the 5th ball of the 48th over, Gill smashed a boundary on Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s delivery to complete his maiden test ton. He showed no signs of pressure and did not opt for a safe single to reach the milestone.
Wasim Jaffer applauds Shubman Gill for scoring maiden Test century
Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer has appreciated Gill’s maiden century in the Chattogram test. Gill got the opportunity to play this game because Rohit Sharma was injured, and Jaffer insists that that’s how a player should make his chances count.
“When the opportunities are few and far between that’s how you make it count. Congratulations on maiden Test ton,” Wasim Jaffer tweeted.

Gill continued his aggressive approach after completing a century and got out while trying to smash the ball for a six. He tried to slog sweep Miraz, but it took his bat’s edge and Mahmudul Hasan took the catch. Gill scored 110 runs with the help of 10 boundaries and 3 sixes.
After Gill’s selection, the Indian team will be in a selection dilemma for the next match as Rohit Sharma is set to come back for the next one, and Rahul is the vice-captain of the side.
