“What are you doing?”: When Michael Jordan was Awoken by the “Jordan Stopper”, Dominqiue Wilkins’ Brother
The 1990s belonged to one man and one man only in the NBA. Michael Jordan. He was the undisputed greatest player of that era.
Standing at 6’6″, MJ had a storied career in the NBA. Winning six championships with the legendary Chicago Bulls in the 1990s, all the while averaging an amazing 30 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists per game.
Safe to say that His Airness was an unstoppable force. Although, some claimed they could stop the Hall of Famer. Like Dominique Wilkins’ brother Gerald Wilkins. He even christened himself the nickname “Jordan Stopper”.
Unfortunately for him, he was brought back to reality by Jordan.
Dominique Wilkins once questioned his brother Gerald who claimed to be the “Jordan-stopper”
Michael Jordan isn’t a man to trash talk, let alone underestimate. But, there were times when a few people did a bit of both. Like with the case of Gerald Wilkins, brother of Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins.
In the 1992-1993 NBA season, the Cleveland Cavaliers made a deal to acquire Gerald Wilkins. The man who boldly claimed to be the “Jordan Stopper”. A nickname that Gerald’s brother knew was trouble and one that led the former to be annihilated by His Airness.
“I called my brother when he said that, and I said, “What are you doing?”. I said, “You don’t want to awaken a sleeping giant, are you crazy?”, and he said, “Hey, he puts on his pants just like I do”, and I said, “Gerald! Gerald! If you’re a good defensive player, you don’t have to talk about it man!”. You don’t want to get him riled up, and I think he averaged 40 in that series.“

A fair argument from Dominique. One that his brother failed to listen to. But, at the end of the day, he learned his lesson from His Airness himself.
Michael Jordan completely dominated Gerald Wilkins in the 1993 NBA Playoffs
Jordan got the chance to face the infamous “Jordan Stopper”, Gerald Wilkins. Unfortunately for Gerald, MJ was too much for him. While he did not “average 4o” like Dominique Wilkins said, His Airness did manage to score 31 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game.
It was a humiliating defeat, to say the least. Probably the last time Gerald Wilkins or anyone else claimed to be a “Jordan Stopper”.
