“LeBron James Gets Guys Together”: When Former Michael Jordan Coach Pointed Out the Crucial Difference Between the Two Greats
LeBron James is already one of the greats. The man is a first-ballot Hall of Famer and has revolutionized the game of basketball with his style of play.
With four NBA Championships, four MVPs, four Final MVPs, and multiple All-NBA, and All-Star teams made, he is consistently mentioned in the GOAT conversation. His major competition? None other than Michael Jordan.
The two men are constantly compared, with many wondering who will go down as the greatest. But, MJ’s former coach, Doug Collins believes the two cannot be mentioned together because of their differing play styles.
Doug Collins appreciates Michael Jordan’s selfishness over LeBron James and his ability to bring guys together
In 2013, LeBron James and the Miami Heat faced off against the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. It was a tough matchup that at one point saw the King struggle.
Following a loss to the Spurs, many began debating about the greatness of LeBron. Specifically in comparison to Michael Jordan. Well, on the Mike & Mike Show, Jordan’s former coach, Doug Collins compares the two.
In particular, he appreciated MJ’s ability to depend on himself to win games. This is in comparison, to LeBron, who according to Collins relied on bringing teammates together.
LeBron and the Miami Heat came back from being 3-2 down to win the Finals 4-3
Doug Collins’ comments came after the Miami Heat were 2-1 down in the series. As the Finals progressed this further escalated to 3-2, meaning the Spurs were just a game away from winning a ring.
However, the very ability of LeBron James to find the best open guy led to the famous Ray Allen moment that led to an unexpected comeback, which saw Miami win its second NBA Finals in three years.

The win marked the King’s second championship win. Effectively throwing him back into the GOAT conversation with MJ after his previous failures in the Finals.
